Moorland Safety

IN THE COMMUNITY

As well as attending on average a call out a week, plus training and fundraising we also get involved in a number of community events.

This includes attendance at a variety of walks and runs which benefit other charities. We provide rescue cover at these events which provides onsite medical assistance and evacuation if required. The team will also deploy sweep teams to ensure no one gets left behind, and if necessary search for overdue or missing people.

We are also involved in the initial planning stages of these events to ensure they run safely and smoothly, and we'll supply our Moorland Safety Leaflets prior to the event to the participants. We're on hand throughout the day to offer advice to walkers and runners, so feel free to pop by to see the work we do. Some of these events would struggle to survive without our support.

Cornwall SRT regularly gives illustrated talks to youth and community groups, which explains the work of the team and promotes safety. Some of these involve hands on interactive demonstrations so that groups can get a real feel for the work we do.

You'll also see us at community fun days and supermarkets with our displays and essential collection buckets!

If you think that your group or event could benefit from us providing a rescue cover or a presentation then please get in contact so that we can discuss what we can do for you.

Spreading the Word
On Friday 5th March (St Piran's Day) we took our team landy to visit the children of St Ia School in St Ives. They learned all about the work of the emergency services and were well clued up on the hazards to look out for in the great outdoors. A quick tour of the landy followed and a chance to test out the cas bag and vac splints followed by a few questions and finally a recap. Out thanks to Miss Hudson and class for looking after us.
